nature, became the
essence of humanity,
became that which is
inseparable from
humanity. So, when
hunger plagues a human
body, it plagues God;
when we inflict violence
on each other, we inflict
violence on God; when
we neglect our relation-
ships with each other, we
neglect our relationship
with God. Whatever we
do to the least of these, so
do we do to God.
Advent is about preparing
the way for Christ’s
coming. Let us devote our
Advent season to the
service of our neighbor,
to the service of creation all
around us. Make a sacrifice
of time: instead of
decorating your home, take
time to volunteer at a local
nonprofit. Make a sacrifice
of money: instead of buying
a present or more
decorations, make a
donation to someone in
need. Let us prepare the
way for Christ and not
Santa Claus this year. Let
us tend to those in need we
find all around us.

served: selflessly, coura-
geously, hopefully, and
wholly embodied.
