In the table below, it is evident that India has relatively poor education in comparison to other countries. For instance, the literacy rate in India is much lower than that of China, East Asia, and the BRICS countries. Students in India also spend considerably less time at school (4.4 years) in comparison to China, where the average years of schooling id 7.5 (Agrawal, 2015). Poor education could be a threat to the sanitary product industry, as a less educated population will impede the country to overcome taboos and myths surrounding mensuration
India’s decent performance in their railways and road transportations are relatively better than other countries in the region, such as China, to compensate for their lack of performance in air transportation (Agrawal, 2015). The chart below indicates that India has better road density than many other regions, although the quality of the roads in India creates a threat to distribution, as only 50% of the roads in India are paved, which is 23% worse than East Asis (Agrawal, 2015). Since portion of the BoP market resides in the rural areas, a threat is formed because the unpaved roads can make it difficult to distribute products to these areas.
