Brother Kevin Bryne , FSC , in his office at the then Bras Basah campus
Lumen pays tribute to the longest serving principal of SJI , Brother Kevin Bryne , FSC who passed away on 26 September 2014 in Castletown , Ireland . From the many accolades showered on Brother Kevin , his gentleness and compassion were a common refrain articulated by those who know him . Although Brother Kevin played a significant role in both the transition of SJI moving from Bras Basah to Malcolm Road and the school gaining independent status , it is his influence on the staff and students that he is most fondly remembered by . Kelvin Monteiro ( Class of 1980 ) aptly encapsulates this : “ I saw Christ in him .”
As 2014 comes to a close , Lumen celebrates the lives of Josephians both young and old : Cheong Fah Chong , Rev Fr Luke Fong , Samuel Chin , Joel Liew , Jonathan Soong and Sebastian Chan who have all triumphed in various aspects of their personal lives . We also highlight programmes , events and reflections that have enriched and made an impact on the SJI community : students , parents , staff and alumni .
Lumen ’ s wish for all our readers this season : May the love of God abound in your hearts this Christmas and the year ahead .
Ora et Labora .
