23 appointed Junior Prefect in 2012 . He serves the school due to his strong sense of belonging to SJI . He knows that he needs to serve to the greatest of his abilities , and attempts in doing so for the school .
This is in sharp contrast to his days in St Joseph ’ s Institution Junior where he spent his primary school years . Then his main preoccupation was play .
Nonetheless , he hopes his peers can learn from him , on how to seek a balance between academics and entertainment . He reiterated , “ You might see me play basketball at times after school , but I have never neglected my school work .” He added , “ As long as you work swiftly , you will be able to finish anything . Studies are not everything , what are also important is your character and the attitude you bear in life . Be happy , and definitely , never give up before this world ends . Cherish every moment in SJI , and most importantly , cherish life .”
Grateful to his alma mater for providing him immense joy and a sense of belonging , Eng Wei is willing to be the voice of students , aspiring to put his best efforts in making the Food out of Canteen policy feasible , and brims with confidence in helping provide a more welcoming SJI environment for others .
Brandon Krygsman , Head Prefect and Senior Josephian of 2011 , is his role model and idol . Eng Wei respects Brandon tremendously because he appears to be ‘ rival-less ’. Nobody seemed jealous or unwilling to accept the fact that he was appointed Head Prefect and Senior Josephian in 2011 . He aspires to be like Brandon – well-liked and charismatic – and desires to earn others ’ respect .
“ I would like to thank my Secondary One and Two Form Teacher , Ms Eliza Tan , for paving the way for me ever since I first stepped into the SJI school compound . I would also like to thank Mr Mok Hsu Pan , for offering me the opportunity to be a leader , and guiding me with his constructive feedback . Last but not least , my family . My family members have been supportive of me in everything I do .”
Eng Wei acknowledges his road to maturity and development as a leader would not have been possible had it not been for the teachers who have shaped and nurtured him into who he is today , and for his loyal cheerleaders in the form of his loved ones .
Not letting his naysayers dampen his spirit , Eng Wei ran for Student Council . Today , he serves in the Student Council and does so unstintingly ; always conscious and appreciative of how much he has gained from an inclusive environment and the need to give back to this same community that has welcomed him so warmly . He is certainly cherishing every moment in SJI and life itself .
