Unity in Step, Harmony in Sound
While part of the Performing Arts family, the Bagpipes and Drums CCA stands apart with its unique blend of musical precision and ceremonial tradition. Equal parts uniformed group and musical ensemble, the CCA performs at formal school events with the solemnity of a marching unit and the artistry of trained musicians.
Each year, the CCA takes part in the Singapore Pipe Band Championship, a prestigious national event organised by the Singapore Pipe Band Association. This platform brings together pipe bands from across the country to present both a traditional March Set and a creative Medley Set.
This year, Team A – comprising seasoned members, including two skilled Year 2 bagpipers – entered the competition with high expectations. Despite disruptions to their practice schedule due to school events and performances, they pushed through with determination.“ Many of our practices were disrupted... but we kept going,” shared President Joseph Thng( MN303).
The team committed to extra home practice and intensified group sessions in the final weeks, fine-tuning their ensemble work and unity. Their efforts paid off with a confident, cohesive performance on competition day. The CCA also marked a milestone with the debut of Team B, made up mainly of Year 2s and one Year 3 snare drummer. For many, it was their first competitive experience. With strong guidance, they rose to the challenge, mastering demanding techniques and performing with pride.
More than medals, their journey reflected the values that define the CCA: discipline, resilience, and the Josephian brotherhood.
