The SJI ArtScience Programme
By Mrs Janet Kwok
SJI launched the ArtScience Programme in 2009 as a special programme to complement its academic curriculum. Designed to equip students with 21stcentury skills, competencies, and dispositions, the programme prepares them to navigate future challenges with creativity and confidence. theme. Through exposure to expert talks, handson experimentation, and immersive field visits, students develop both analytical and creative capacities. Ultimately, the ArtScience Programme nurtures adaptable, forward-thinking learners who are ready to meet the challenges of an everchanging world.
SJI ran the ArtScience Programme from 2012 to 2018, working in collaboration with Professor David Edwards, then of Harvard University, who initiated the development of the ArtScience concept in 2003.
Students develop 21st Century Competencies through the development of nine skills we refer to as the ArtScience Skill Set.
The curriculum has since been progressively refreshed and is now rebooted for 2025 with new partners, ushering in a new chapter for the ArtScience experience at SJI.
