Starstruck ! the Musical was a platform to showcase the talents of Josephian students , testifying to what young minds can achieve when their creativity is channelled toward both artistic expression and social responsibility . Featuring a team of over 40 students from Year 3 to Year 6 , this musical was produced entirely by students — including the script , song , and choreography .
The musical tells the story of Estelle , an orphan who always dreams of seeing the stars . However , things go downhill when she gets sent off to work at the Dumont Estate – the property of one of the richest families in town . Under the control of the hostile head servant , Estelle ‘ s dream becomes more far-fetched than ever until an unexpected discovery happens that forces her to share a secret with her master ‘ s son , Victor .
As they grow close , Victor shows Estelle how to make her dream come true . But , as with any dream , there comes a price that they will learn to pay . This musical therefore is a tale of love , fears and dreams , celebrating the courage to stand up for oneself and pursue what one ’ s heart desires . “ The key idea I wanted to explore in Starstruck is fear , mainly how it controls our actions and decisions . More than anything , I hoped this musical would inspire others to take a leap of faith in their own lives , just as we did on stage , and remind everyone that art has the power to connect us and make a difference in the world ,“ the play ‘ s scriptwriter and artistic director Hubert Halim ( FN602 ) reflected .
The performance was filled with energy and raw emotions , both from the team and the audience . Each scene , carefully crafted and rehearsed ,
