The Lasallian Way at the St . Jaime Hilario School in Manila

Edgar Muang ( LE401 ) sharing about Singapore to the student leaders of St Jamie Hilario

Being on a Lasallian Service Year 3 International Education trip , we set out to instill and grow specific Lasallian values and ethos both in our teachers and especially our 30 young Lasallian students .

One of the Lasallian values is our focus on “ Faith in the Presence of God ”. We practiced this value at the start of our journey at Changi Airport T2 and at every community meal .
Secondly , our Josephian students embodied the value of being in an inclusive community and practicing ethical leadership . We were also the beneficiaries of this value , when the families from Bataan welcomed us into their homes where we spent a day , humbling ourselves by doing daily household chores , pumping water from the well , cutting vegetables , and learning how to cook a good chicken dish . Some students even helped run the family grocery shop for a day . Indeed , we felt very much part of the community .
Thirdly , we practiced the Lasallian tenet of “ Together and by Association ”. To this end , we cleaned up the beach in front of the school , and presented Singapore ’ s attractions , food and diverse religions to an attentive cohort . In turn , the student leaders of St . Jamie Hilario and the surrounding community delighted us with a series of colourful folk and contemporary dances .
