LUMEN | OFF-THE-BEATEN-PATH IN LAOS
crystal waters of Nam Song River in Vang Vieng .
We just jumped into the cool water , each climbing onto a huge tyre , headed to the very low mouth of a cave , grabbed the rope and pulled ourselves hand-overhand up the underground river for 500 metres . The tunnel was narrow and very low in parts , with formations on the ceiling . The darkness and disorientation made for an exciting experience .
Tubing in Tham Nam Water Cave on these rubber tyres was a first-time experience for us .
We chose to go to Laos because unlike its more bustling neighbours , Laos offers a slower pace of life , making it an ideal place to unwind and relax . To our pleasant surprise , we found out that Laos is known for its stunning natural landscapes . The country is characterised by lush jungles , rolling mountains and serene rivers with pristine waters . The Mekong River , in particular , offers breathtaking views and opportunities for boat rides , while the countryside is dotted with picturesque rice paddies and numerous waterfalls .
Rich Cultural Heritage : We discovered that Laos boasts a rich and vibrant cultural heritage . The country is home to many Buddhist temples and monasteries , many of which are adorned with intricate architecture and intricate designs . Luang Prabang , a UNESCO Heritage Site , is a prime example of a well-preserved town with a wealth of cultural treasures .
The Kwang Si Falls is a gorgeous set of waterfalls which flows over limestone rocks and gets its beautiful turquoise colour from the limestone particles .
The hike to Nam Xay Viewpoint in Vang Vieng was very challenging for us as the trail was very steep and slippery but we had unbeatable views of jagged limestone cliffs , lush forests and paddy fields .
