On 10 March 2023 , over 800 staff members from seven Lasallian institutions across Singapore gathered for the annual Lasallian Formation Day 2023 to participate in a spirit of zeal for their shared love of the mission . The day began with a hearty breakfast at St . Joseph ’ s Institution , as the staff members broke bread with one another , rekindling fraternal bonds which had been forged long before the Covid-19 pandemic struck .
The assembly was welcomed by the presence of the newly appointed Brother Visitor for the Lasallian East Asian District , Br . Jose Mari Jimenez , FSC . He shared about how he had first been called to the vocation of teaching by his teacher who had invited him at then age 9 , to come back to school on Sundays to assist with teaching some younger children from a poor district . This led him on a path to becoming a De La Salle Brother for the past 29 years . He also spoke about the tremendous influence teachers can have on the lives of the young , helping them see what is best in themselves and moving them towards building a better world for all . He further drew attention to how the theme of the Lasallian DNA aims to enable young people to participate in society , as they develop a sense of interiority . He concluded his sharing by exhorting the participants to share their stories with one another , to edify and encourage each other on their journey as members of the Lasallian mission .
After his welcome address , the participants proceeded to the main event , formation for mission ! The participants were divided into
