The Easter Term opened with the Literature Festival , an annual event celebrating the creation of various literary works , ranging from poems to drama . Each year , the Festival takes students on a journey through the arts .
This year , embracing the theme of discovery , students in Years 1 and 2 had a chance to play detective in a murder mystery trail based on the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare .
Planned and executed by 10 Year 4 Literature students from the O-Level Programme , the murder mystery was born out of their desire to not only promote and intrigue students in the study of Shakespearean English but also to introduce their juniors to Shakespearean plays . The nature of the trail offered a non-intimidating access point into an otherwise challenging play .
Students were instructed to gather clues unique to the trail , which was fittingly held at The Bunker that had been re-positioned as the Hell ’ s Gate ; or , the entrance into a horrendous scene of a murder . With critical thinking , analysis and cooperation , the juniors would be able to name King Duncan ’ s murderer .
Preparations for the activity had begun since the end of February . The trail originated from a class discussion regarding student-initiated activities to be part of the Lit Fest . We felt that the murder mystery trail would strike a balance between a literary challenge and a source of fun . Both of these encounters with Literature made it especially fitting for the theme of discovery .
Once we were set on the idea , we filmed a short clip to enliven and interest the students . With the use of fake blood
