What our students say about their HBL experience :
“ Every teacher who is teaching me had made a difference during HBL . The fact that they are constantly supporting us and adapting by planning new lesson outlines and plan of actions shows that they care and are putting a lot of effort into making our HBL more manageable .”
“ My form tutor will always check in on the whole class every morning during the form tutor contact time . He ensures that all of us are coping well with HBL and extends a helping hand to anyone who needs help .”
“ I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to learn under such unprecedented circumstances , especially with the help of the teachers in SJI who have put in a lot of effort into planning lessons and making them as interactive as they can for us .”
Our young enthusiastic innovators from the Design and Innovation Club kept discussions going during HBL with their teacher Mrs Pennie Ong
While academics continued online without much hiccup , all the co-curricular activities have been suspended since Term 2 began . However , our young Josephians kept their passion and enthusiasm alive through regular online meetings or prayer meetings ( read how our Josephians keep the Catholic spirit alive in SJI during COVID-19 on page 14 ). Despite not being able to meet up with fellow students during the CB , some of our Josephians found other meaningful ways to reach out to others . One such initiative was the online reading programme to primary school students called Make Hay Every Day in May ( see page 16 )
Other non-academic programmes also had to be rescheduled and conducted online instead , such as the SJI Professional Speaker Series where working professionals were invited to share their work experiences with our IB students . ( read this on page 17 )
The students ( and teachers alike ) have expressed that they miss the daily interactions in school . Having sailed through
What students are grateful for
this difficult period together , they have learnt the importance of appreciating their everyday lives and showing care and concern for their loved ones at home , which many had previously taken for granted .
HBL has been an unexpected and unprecedented journey that was worth discovering and venturing into . Indeed , our teachers and students have been challenged in so
many ways brought about by the pandemic and HBL , but with the can-do spirit of our SJI community , we are proud to say we have fought a good fight against all odds . Our teachers have demonstrated that they curae students beyond the call of duty . In fact , by living out the spirit of curae for one another , the new level of camaraderie found in the SJI community is indomitable . In many ways , this pandemic has truly allowed us to live out the Lasallian values of Faith , Service and Community .
