Some of the ECG programmes that were conducted this year :
1 . Career Fair by Josephian-at-Large This Career Fair is organised with strong support from our alumni and the SJI Old Boys Association ( SJIOBA ). This is the 9th year that we are having this fair , where our students get to learn and interact with their seniors about their career journeys in their respective fields . These alumni include those in the medical field , lawyers , IT consultants , engineers and bankers . Many of these old boys have volunteered at this annual event more than once and it gives them great satisfaction to serve as role models for their juniors .
2 . Career Success by Junior Achievement SJI collaborated with Junior Achievement ( JA ) to introduce their Career Success programme to our Year 4 IP students as part of their postexamination activity . The classroom lessons were conducted by volunteers who were mainly from the SJIOBA and the SJI Parent Support Group ( PSG ). After undergoing training with JA to familiarized with the teaching materials and slides , the volunteers covered the key topics such as critical thinking , communication , collaboration , and creativity , strong soft skills , work priorities , STEM and other high-growth industries , Personal-brand and job-hunting tools — resumes , cover letters , interviews , and digital profiles . Volunteers and students praised the programme for its authenticity and realism provided by speakers in sharing their real-life experience .
3 . Learning Journey to Companies Our students also had the opportunity to visit companies from various industries to experience the real-life working conditions and job scope of the various companies that they visited . These visits provided our students with insights to the different careers and help them in their career choices . Special arrangements were made to source for these trips to be led by alumni working in companies . Out of the visits made to companies , our students were particularly drawn to those made to Ninja Van , A * Star and Johnson & Johnson as the tours were led by SJI alumni . The companies which students visited in 2019 included
• Johnson and Johnson
• A * Star
• Ninja Van
• PayPal
• NParks
• Janus Henderson
• Marsh & McLennan

Future Partnerships and Collaboration

While implementing and delivering these programmes , the ECG committee had relied on the tremendous support from our parent volunteers , old boys and external agencies . We value the varied expertise and experiences that they bring into our ECG programmes .

We welcome volunteers and organisations who wish to collaborate with us in the following initiatives as we seek to deliver a varied learning experience for our students .
● Career Success that is conducted for Year 4 IP students will be extended to Year 4 OP students as well .
● Financial Literacy programme is also an important skill that we would like to introduce to our students . This is especially important for students who aspire to study overseas , and the programme will cover the aspect of financing one ’ s overseas education .
● Attachment or internship programmes by companies who are open to either providing attachment opportunities and / or learning journeys .
● We welcome volunteers for our ECG programmes who would like to share their working experience or their career life journeys ( in a panel setting , forum , career lessons ), or offer your companies for learning journey visits .
If you would like to find out more about potential collaboration and volunteer opportunities , please contact Albert Tan ( albert . tan @ sji . edu . sg ), ECG coordinator at SJI .
