amply provided by generous parent volunteers , a Readathon , a Poetry Slam , a poster design competition and a “ Know your food references in Literature ” quiz . The ASEAN Google Lit Journey was also launched in the Library that week .
Book Week , another major reading event held in Term 3 where we had author visits , a teacher talk , a librarian talk , a memoir writing competition , a poetry writing competition , and reading challenge .
Besides the book displays linked to the literary festivals in school , the Library has also put on several themed mini displays throughout the year , including Read Shakespeare , Banned and Challenged books , the Man Booker Fiction Award , and “ Read the Book , it ’ s Better ” ( than the movie ), and others .
Another new addition in the Library this year was the series of Library Lunchtime Teacher Talks . Six teachers spoke on a range of topics they were passionate about , and recommended some interesting books for students and teachers to enjoy . Topics covered included travel literature , creative writing , film , photography and postcolonial literature .
The Beurel now has a mascot ! The Library Lion mascot was the result of a Library Logo Design competition , an Art learning task which gave students a taste of designing competitively for a real “ client ” - the Librarian , who chose the winning entry and put up the book voucher prize .
The Library Lion has since appeared on Library awards , festival bookmarks , and other promotion materials in the Library .
Last but not least , we are grateful to the kind parents who volunteered their time to wrap our books in the Library this year . It was largely due to their help that many older but still valued books have been given a new lease of life , and beautiful new books are protected against being prematurely loved to death !
Any member of the school community interested in finding out more about the Library and Library events should refer to the Library website accessible via the Student or Staff Portal . The Library website also provides useful information about resources and gives tips on essential research skills that all students should develop .
