A New Journey Awaits

By Audrey Tung
Indeed , a whole new experience awaited the incoming new students to SJI . Their two-year journey in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme was about to begin . Planned by their seniors , the orientation welcomed them , eased them into the Lasallian culture and helped them embrace the strong school spirit .

On 3 February , I woke up feeling ambivalent . Not knowing what to expect of my new school and my peers , anxiety was naturally present . However , I was also excited about the new journey ahead of me . As I stepped into my new territory ( the S-J-Island ), I came face to face with reality that I am now in Junior College .

When seated amongst my peers , my fears quickly dwindled . As the principal Father Adrian Danker gave us an inspiring speech in the Lecture Theatre , I knew from that instant that SJI was the perfect place for me as the values and mission of SJI resonated deeply with me . After the mandatory self-introduction session and
icebreakers , we were no longer strangers .
The Josephian Challenge and the Heritage Trail allowed us to learn more about the significance of being a Josephian . Through the various station games we played in our respective tutor groups , we got to know one another even better . Though some challenges were not easy , with teamwork , we managed to overcome them all . In addition , the Heritage Trail was essential for us to learn the roots of SJI and the vision and mission of our founder , Saint John Baptist de La Salle . After the trail , we had a deeper understanding of the Lasallian core values of faith , service and community .
