“ I think it helps students to be self-reflective about what they ’ re doing for the different stages of this exhibition . From composing it artistically , to offering commentary and also thinking about how they should express their experiences to their audience ,” commented Dr Fiona Murphy . Student Zhang Qintian ( JC 105 ) also felt that the GEP is an experience worth sharing and is confident that the exhibition will provide a unique insight into the hope of brave souls who thrive in unfavourable living conditions .
Mr Alex Soh , a professional travel and landscape photographer , had earlier guided the students and teachers through the journey of planning and curating photographs for the exhibition . He is pleased that the team has come together to bring out their voice through the exhibition , and impressed by their fantastic team dynamic . Mr Soh also stressed that this experience
helps the students to “ get real ” and realise that the GEP is more than a school project , with their actions leaving tangible and lasting impacts on the people and places they have visited .
Indeed , the process of setting up the exhibition seemed overwhelming , but the students have achieved what they set out to do . The process of planning took a long time , from the very beginning in looking for an exhibition space , to the very introspective curation of the many amazing stories and photographs , to garnering the support of their schoolmates and teachers together for a successful launch event . Despite the demands of the journey , the students found motivation from the stories they wanted to communicate , benefited from this learning process , and eventually delighted in the success and reception of the end product .
I think it helps students to be selfreflective about what they ’ re doing for the different stages of this exhibition . From composing it artistically , to offering commentary and also thinking about how they should express their experiences to their audience .
