Every year , the JC 1 students embark on the Global Education Programme ( GEP ), journeys of physical challenge , cultural engagement and service learning to various countries . This year , students organised the first GEP Photo Exhibition held in the Singapore Botanic Gardens as a product of their experiences on these trips . By exhibiting the work of student and staff photographers , the committee behind the photo exhibition was able to showcase the highlights of their travels and share with the public of the very pressing issues they had witnessed . From droughts to pollution to poverty , these problems come close to home but are too often forgotten and ignored .

The exhibition opened on 19 November across three gates of the gardens : Nassim , Bukit Timah and Tanglin . Each gate presented a different theme . Nassim featured Relationships , Tanglin : People , Places and Cultures , and Bukit Timah : Sustainability . The students hosted a tour on the opening day and guided guests and visitors around the Nassim gate exhibits , introducing the complex relationships that bind people , communities and environments of the different countries they visited .

The idea of a photo-exhibition as a product of the Global Education Programme was wellreceived . Staff and parents who visited the exhibition were able to better understand the programme as a whole . More importantly , they could witness , through the photographs , the easily-overlooked but very intimate moments experienced by students . Members of the public were also drawn in by the beautiful and striking images , engaged by the stories accompanying them .
