To commemorate racial and cultural diversity , SJI held its inaugural Mother Tongue Week from 16-19 May 2016 . The atmosphere at the amphitheatre was teeming with verve and activity . The almost one-week long event saw many students and teachers enjoying the games of a bygone era . There was a range of Chinese , Malay and Indian games : diablo , chapteh , tapak kuda , gasing , thayam and aadupuliyattam complete with instructional sheets and diagrams on how to play the various games .
Emcee Dylan Nickhiel Daven ( Michael 303 ) ensured the participants and audience were kept abreast of the events that occurred . The culminating event was also the crowd favourite - the MTL ( Mother Tongue Language ) Idol in which a number of crooners battled it out for the grand prize of $ 60 Popular vouchers . The contestants performed before four judges : Ms Nathania Chan , Mr Karl Lee , Mr K Arul , and Mr Matthew Quek who also stunned everyone with an amazing surprise performance .
