13 premises at Bras Basah and Waterloo Street during the 60 ’ s , while entertainment was brilliantly and nostalgically provided by SJI 60 ’ s personalities such as Izziriders and Singapore Tremolo Rondalla . The good times flowed as members of the cohort reminisced , rekindled old friendships and rejoiced over their shared struggles and triumphs over the past 50 years .
The event was also commemorated with the launch of the SJI65 Brother Justinian Memorial Bursary , named in loving memory of the SJI Principal in 1965 , Brother Justinian . The scholarship is a symbol of the cohort ’ s gratitude and appreciation to their Alma Mater and recognises the unselfish contribution of the De La Salle Brothers .
As a cohort that experienced trying times themselves while growing up – sometimes without enough money even for the bus – the scholarship is a poignant statement that serves as both reflection and repayment . Now as the SJI65 cohort ease into their autumn years together in brotherhood , the bursary is a meaningful return for the invaluable education and guidance they had received during their once formative years . Funds raised from the cohort will go towards providing extra monthly pocket money to students from financially challenged families . Other Josephians , friends and well-wishers are warmly invited to contribute to the bursary .
As the evening drew to a close after countless priceless reflections on the years that transpired , the SJI ’ 65 cohort departed from their original school premises just like the old days , this time not on buses or on feet , but in cars with families and friends – what a journey it has been !
