“ The first artist ( Hans ) was brave to speak about personal and sensitive issues through his art , and the second artist ( Yuchong ) had no prior background in art but persevered despite difficulties and setbacks , and managed to produce such good artwork .”
The latter segment of the programme was the soul-shaking , emotional recital by the seven music students who filled the hall with their rich melodious performances . Their pieces showcased their coordination and dexterity , such as Germaine ’ s performance on the Yamaha Electone demonstrated , as she cordinated both her hands and feet to recreate an orchestral piece on one instrument , transporting the audience away on a grandiose , mystical journey through lush , picturesque greenery with soothing sunlight . The cautious , attentive performance by Abbi Chow ( Tutor Group 205 ) and Tan Wen Yan ( Tutor Group 202 ) demonstrated their nimble fingers for quick , spine-tingling trills and runs that required finesse and fine control . Neo Kai Wen Jevon ’ s ( Tutor Group 208 ) and Alvin Chio ’ s ( Tutor Group 206 ) pieces were emotive and moving , as their music swelled , rose and fell , letting their music wash over the audience in waves . Ong Jean Wei ’ s ( TG 204 ) rich , soulful voice , powerful yet controlled , made her solo performance memorable . She also sang a duet with Alvin reprising the fan-favourite song from the Senior School ’ s first musical production , Shoesical the Musical , much to the delight of the largely student audience .
The exhibition closed with a joint performance of “ You Raise Me Up ” by all the music students , with Yan Tong on piano , Wen Yan and Abbi on strings , Alvin on the electric guitar , Germaine on melodica , Jevon on electric piano , and Jean and Alvin providing the vocals . The music students ’ ability to arrange their score
such that a variety of instruments could be played together , left the audience impressed . Their performance ended on a high note , in celebration of all the hard work and effort put in by both the art and music students , an appropriate finale showcasing the students ’ journey of development as artists and musicians .
