The Artist And His Voice Goes Talking
Facing The Voice Belying The Artwork
Communication using the voice of the author, welcomes the Face of the Artist! Art without a face is
least likely to sell, especially for the unknown Creator. Repeatedly selling oneself and philosophy
prior to any exhibition, aids in establishing a respected foundation and presence in the market
place. Once the mind of the Artist has been bought, this process effectively sells the work, often
even before it is created. No one wants to purchase works endowed with the vibration of idiocy,
some wont even buy a portrait until they know the spiritual and intellectual capacity of the sitter,
as buyers become more purposeful, esoteric, spiritual, as well as political in their informed outlook,
whilst others don’t give a rat’s cheese, as long as the Artist’s Brand is well known, but how does
the brand become known…? This is of which we speak. Some will buy for investment, others for
Adoration or for the Spiritual and Political Connotations of the work.
Some speak of, “focus on the work!” But if the work has no language and is obviously silent or
mute, how does it speak for itself? Well, it speaks through the Creator, the Artist. Simple! If the face
of the artist is unknown, it is likely that the work will never be known. Artists are becoming more
and more like Rock Stars, as worship of the work and the character behind the work becomes more
and more important, made especially so by the young, hip non-purchasing audience.
Putting a Face on the work creates interest and attracts attention, as evident in the marketing
structure of Damien Hirst, whom everyone loves to hate. But, he sells works through his face
and a very prominent voice, which makes him much money along with fame. His character is
so massive that he can sell almost anything in any medium of the arts, he can even sell a chain
of hotels or dolls. He did not accomplish that by hiding his face and voice. Matter in fact, I think
Damien is solidly the most cunning, brilliant, wise and intelligent Artist alive today. Were Salvador
Dali still within this dimension, he and Damien would be battling for first place in self promotion.
