risultato percettivo cognitivo dell ’ interazione tra l ’ illuminazione , con le sue caratteristiche cromatiche , e i colori dell ’ ambiente che stiamo osservando , che riflettono diffusamente la luce verso i nostri occhi . Dopo il premio Nobel per la medicina del 2017 sulle ricerche circadiane si fa anche un gran parlare , soprattutto all ’ estero , di illuminazione circadiana e prodotti circadiani per gli interni . Se l ’ idea può sembrare in prima istanza valida e salutare , l ’ approccio progettuale è spesso sbagliato . Non basta un prodotto o un progetto di illuminazione per stimolare correttamente il sistema circadiano . È il progetto dell ’ ambiente nel suo insieme che deve essere circadiano . Ricordiamoci che noi evitiamo sempre istintivamente di osservare direttamente le sorgenti di luce per via dell ’ abbagliamento , mentre osserviamo continuamente le superfici dell ’ ambiente che ci circonda . La luce che ricevono i nostri occhi e che contribuisce al sistema visivo così come al sistema circadiano è quasi sempre luce riflessa o diffusa dalle superfici dell ’ ambiente , che hanno a loro volta caratteristiche fisiche tali da riflettere verso i nostri occhi una luce generalmente modificata da quella che esce dagli apparecchi d ’ illuminazione . Ecco perché l ’ illuminazione e il colore negli interni dovrebbero sempre essere progettati assieme . Ma qui entriamo in parte anche nell ’ ambito della progettazione olistica e dei suoi aspetti filosofici . Ci vorrà tempo .
Prof . Rossi , guardando invece all ’ oggi ? Nel breve-medio periodo io mi accontenterei di vedere strumenti software di supporto alla metodologia BIM in grado di gestire sia il lighting design che il color design e una valutazione fisicamente corretta della interazione tra spettri di illuminazione e riflettanze spettrali delle superfici . Da una ventina d ’ anni la verifica del progetto di illuminazione si è informatizzata , e le caratteristiche dei prodotti sono disponibili in basi di dati . Oggi il color design degli spazi viene ancora fatto a mano tramite le mazzette colore , mancano quindi i dati fisici che sarebbero necessari al software per fare calcoli fisicamente corretti e , soprattutto , questi dati non sono completamente accessibili ai professionisti del colore nella loro pratica progettuale .

The AIC-International Colour Association was founded in 1967 in Washington DC , USA , during the 16th Session of the CIE , and is formed by the federation of 30 national colour associations , thus gathering thousands of participants worldwide , including researchers , professionals , artists and enthusiasts , on all multidisciplinary topics of colour . In this capacity , it represents the authority on all activities and disciplines dealing with such an essential and transversal subject as Colour .
Maurizio Rossi , the new President-Elect of AIC , and a member of AIDI for many years , was asked by LUCE to take stock of the activities carried out by AIC in recent years and to indicate the objectives for the next two years . Thank you for asking me these questions . First of all , let me explain what president-elect means in AIC . In this worldwide association , the president-elect takes office alongside the current president ( Leslie Harrington , USA ). When the term of office of the current president expires , the president-elect automatically becomes the new president . This ensures consistency and continuity in the actions of the association over time .
Professor Rossi , what are your goals in AIC , and how do you balance all the different colour cultures involved ? From 2017 to 2021 , I was already a member of the executive committee with the key task of managing organisational matters of AIC events , in collaboration with the national associations that organised them . In detail , the 2017 Congresses in Korea and 2021 in Italy , the 2018 Interim-Conference in Portugal and 2020 in France , and the 2019 Midterm- Conference in Argentina . The AIC Congress , which has been held every 4 years since the 1960s , is a multidisciplinary event where all colour-related topics are covered , including of course lighting . On the other hand , the Midterm and Interim Conferences deal , from time to time , with different colour-specific topics . The objective for the next two years , in which I will maintain the coordinating role , is to continue with the organisation of the next events that are already planned . They are Canada 2022 , Thailand 2023 , Brazil 2024 and Taiwan 2025 . The organisational format of the AIC events sees the start of work 3 years earlier for Congresses and 2 years earlier for Conferences . The theme of the Toronto 2022 conference will be “ Sensing Color ”.
What is AIC ’ s mission ? Along with promoting and supporting research and studies in this multidisciplinary field through conferences and the journal JAIC , does the association provide training and service activities for its members ? In addition to the Congresses and Conferences , of which it is also the publisher of the proceedings , the AIC organises five significant permanent thematic study groups , which are attended by many participants worldwide . These are : “ Arts & Design ”, “ Color education ”, “ Language of color ”, “ Environmental color design ” and “ Color vision and psychophysics ”. The study groups are coordinated by university experts ; the study groups present the progress of their work every two years at AIC events , as well as organising their own workshops .
