Wireless remote control systems are now becoming an important element for public lighting systems , not only as a useful tool to manage lighting but also as a bridge towards sensors distributed throughout the territory in a Smart City perspective . The synergies between remote control systems and lighting , though , go far beyond the city , as successfully tested by Algorab in several other situations and applications . Still in the street context , a first scope of application are tunnels ( Smart Tunnel ), an environment where remote control can be used very profitably , given the need for light management and the difficulty of access . In this context , as in public lighting , we are witnessing the transition from the node embedded ded within the lamp to the Zhaga socket node , which allows for much greater operational flexibility ity and consequent cost reduction . Algorab has recently been selected by a major motorway operator to supply its Zhaga a node system for around 30,000 lamps in over 450 tunnels , and has previously installed over 17,000 nodes in 41 tunnels . Another area of use is the so-called Smart Building field . Here the wireless system proves successful in large buildings or in retrofit situations , where a cable connection is difficult to implement and costly . Wireless systems offer ease and flexibility of installation , thus reducing the associated costs . The remote control nodes for indoor use the same P5 technology as for outdoor applications , with just a few modifications to the FW , demonstrating the flexibility of Algorab products . In these indoor applications , lamps can be automatically and dynamically managed , switching them on and off according to the presence of people in the different rooms and adjusting the intensity according to the ambient brightness . Once again , the nodes extend their field of use to dialogue with sensors to detect other variables ( e . g ., temperature , opening / closing
Lighting management beyond the city : wireless technology is always smart
