amount of money that can be reused in this very transformation process . This has also led to greater environmental benefits . In this context , a case study of great interest is the project carried out for the city of Fidenza by Iren Smart Solutions , an Iren Group company with thirty years ’ experience in the design and implementation of energy efficiency measures for public and architectural lighting systems , as well as management , maintenance and remote control projects . The project involved a major redevelopment of the public lighting system and its energy efficiency , with the installation of 6,030 LED lighting fixtures and an energy saving of about 62 %. The new system includes different colour temperatures for the luminaires , depending on the area in which they are
installed : 3,000K for the historic centre and 4,000K for the area outside the boulevards . As for the interventions that fall within the Smart City framework and are described below , these were carried out with the technical support of Revetec srl . In the old town centre , point-to-point radio frequency remote control has been installed on 890 luminaires , which makes it possible to monitor in real time each individual light point , detecting consumption and anomalies , and managing lighting groups for special settings and programming . Another example of application is the Fidenza Cathedral , where , following the Diocese ’ s instructions , different lighting scenarios have been created according to weekdays , public holidays and anniversaries . The remote control of public lighting is extended to 67 switchboards throughout the city , allowing for the monitoring of energy consumption , the switching on / off by means of an astronomical clock , and alarms on the status of switches and other anomalies at switchboard level . In addition to the public lighting devices , other integrated Smart City services have been installed
and activated : areas equipped with Wi-Fi , a system for reading license plates and dangerous goods , electronic information boards , a charging station for electric cars , Smart parking through computer vision and a Weather Station . More specifically : - 12 OCR cameras for licence plate reading and dangerous goods identification . Cameras are connected to the control room , where the software for analysing the flow of traffic in both directions is located ; - 6 electronic billboards to provide users with information on traffic , air quality , initiatives or events scheduled in the municipal area ; - 2 Wi-Fi hotspots in the historic centre and station , thanks to the installation of WIFI “ base stations ”, equipped with all the power and control equipment needed to provide a high-level WIFI service ; - 5 charging stations for electric cars in several areas of the City ( to be defined ); - 1 weather station capable of collecting environmental and weather data , for an effective monitoring and archiving of environmental data , to be displayed on electronic billboards ; - 1 smart parking system via computer vision , close to the Guernica car park . By analysing an image , the camera provides information on whether the parking space is vacant or occupied and on how long a vehicle has been there . The data is then made available on a web dashboard and on an arrow panel in the close proximity of the parking lot . These actions are the starting point for further developments that will allow the implementation of new systems to serve citizens , in an increasingly smarter way .
