The artistic lighting that enhances the beauty of cities
The increasingly close relationship between environment , architecture , and well-being has changed how cities are and how they are perceived . Light has increasingly become the protagonist of new urban environments and landscapes , especially in densely populated areas , where a proper lighting becomes an element of identity and differentiation of spaces . Light is not just technology but also communication , emotion , and well-being . In the multifaceted urban landscape , which is increasingly dynamic and frenetic , there are three main needs affecting the perspective of those called upon to manage the lighting of city spaces : the need for functionality and safety , the wellbeing of the citizen who inhabits urban spaces , and the enhancement of the territory and its artistic and cultural heritage . And it is precisely from the latter that the Luci d ’ Artista ( Artist ’ s Lights ) project was born and developed . For over twenty years , these lights have embellished Italian cities during the Christmas period , dressing in light the streets and squares of the city and turning them into the perfect setting for lighting works created by increasingly talented contemporary artists . Iren Smart Solutions has been providing artistic lighting solutions and light installations for years , enhancing the city ’ s artistic and cultural heritage , fully respecting the surrounding environment . Since 1997 , in fact , Iren Smart Solutions has been responsible for the creation of dynamic light shows , characterized by evocative outdoor lighting installations boasting a strong visual impact . First developed in cooperation with the City of Turin , they have subsequently landed in other cities , such as Salerno , Pescara , Genoa , L ’ Aquila , Lyon , Barcelona , Lisbon , and Marseille . Artistic lighting is more than ever an instrument capable of enhancing the potential of the artistic and historical heritage , ensuring the visibility of specific places even at night , thereby increasing their usability . In order to create an artistic lighting project that is not only aesthetically pleasing , but also effective and functional , the
creative component is a fundamental part , but not sufficient . To achieve this result it is in fact crucial to also evaluate a series of factors such as colour temperature , power consumption , the positioning of light sources , and the colour rendering index . This is where the thirty-year expertise of the Iren Group company comes into play , being able to provide a service capable of protecting the environment and at the same time enhancing the historical and cultural heritage of a city . Iren Smart Solutions ’ professionals and experts guide the drafting , development , and implementation of projects that are able to adapt to the peculiarities of the urban area and enhance its beauty . The designer , or lighting designer , acts as a director , choosing how , where , and why to illuminate , using solutions that change according to the urban context in which he / she operates . Luci d ’ Artista should not flatten cities , making them all similar to one another ; instead , it is their task to exalt their beauty and enhance their peculiarities , thanks to the skilful play of technology and colours . In 2020 , Luci d ’ Artista will once again illuminate some of Italy ’ s most beautiful cities , in full compliance with safety regulations . Launched on October 30th , the twenty-third edition of the Luci d ’ Artista will light up the streets and squares of Turin until the beginning of January . From December 8th onwards , Genoa ’ s illuminations will be switched on , embellishing the city of the Lantern for the entire Christmas period .
