Cariboni Group illuminates
CityLife in Milan
Designed by architects of the calibre of Arata
Isozaki, Daniel Libeskind, and Zaha Hadid, the
project for the CityLife area is among the most
innovative, in Italy as well as in Europe. Thanks to
this renovation, the Portello district has been
completely reshaped, transforming itself from an
trade fair centre into an area dedicated to people and
meetings.
Following the relocation of the old Milan trade fair
to the new fairground Fieramilano in Rho-Pero,
which also hosted the Italian Expo in 2015, an area
of more than 250,000 square metres became
available. Three avant-garde skyscrapers now stand
here, in addition to the largest pedestrian area in
Milan – one of the largest in Europe –, as car traffic
and parking spaces have been located in the
underground floors.
A wide-ranging project, based on the modern
concept of a city designed to be lived all-round: in
Libeskind’s words, CityLife represents “Milan as a
portal to Europe”, and while the large public spaces
and leisure areas are an important outlet for
residents in the area, the three large towers are
meant to become one of the new symbols
of Milan in the world.

The Portello district has thus become an area to be
fully experienced at any time of day or night.
Every element of this radical transformation has been
studied down to the smallest detail, including the
lighting design.
We are proud to have contributed in giving a new face
to this historic district of Milan, enhancing its new
spaces and futuristic architecture with the light of our
lighting fixtures.
To illuminate CityLife, Big Link has been chosen, in
the pole side configuration and equipped with LED
sources: perfectly in line with the aesthetic
characteristics of the surrounding environment, this
modern and essential design goes hand in hand with
functionality, energy efficiency, and reliability, thanks
to the careful selection of its components, materials
and finishes, carefully chosen to last and withstand
overvoltage, impacts, and corrosion.
Designed by architect Silvio De Ponte, Big Link is a
versatile product that offers multiple solutions for
public lighting and street furniture, with a wide choice
of combinations of sources and optical systems that are
suitable for the lighting of streets, pedestrian and cycle
paths, and green areas.
The different mounting systems allow you to install
Big Link with arm suspension or side mounted, the
latter being the preferred installation option in
CityLife. The product is available as standard in the
colour Sablé 100 Noir and in two different colour
temperatures, warm white and neutral white.
Supplied with the pre-set virtual self-learning system,
at midnight – calculated with an algorithm that takes
into account the geolocation of the product –, its
luminous flux decreases by 30%, thus allowing a
further energy saving during the night-time hours
with less traffic.
