The light by Maurici Ginés, artec3 W 28 When was the artec3 studio founded, and why did you decide to focus on lighting design in particular? I founded artec3 in 1994. At that time, lighting design was not really known in the field of architecture, as in my opinion it still is today, it was practically unknown. In Spain, lighting design was limited mainly to the theatre and entertainment, and there was no form of academic training available. I chose it as a profession because it was the way that allowed me to work and experiment with light. I could see too many spaces that were illuminated with only a functional purpose, and this led me to work and study light, with a wider and more complex vision. How is lighting for retail merchandising designed? First of all it evolves from a careful analysis of the brand. In retail sale, the image of the brand must be easy to recognize and identify at first sight, almost unconsciously. Light plays a fundamental e met Maurici Ginés, the director and founder of artec3. The first artec3 studio was born in Spain over twenty years ago. Currently there are three operative offices: in Barcelona, London and Mexico City. More than 300 projects for interiors, for lighting architecture and products, dozens of prizes and acknowledgements, together with a constant research of innovative solutions, have made artec3 one of the most interesting studios in the international panorama of lighting. The dynamic Ginés described his work and his experience, and shared some thoughts about the world of lighting design with us. LUCE 320 / INCONTRI
