Later that season, Jeremiah had an
encounter with him, but decided to pass.
He said that he likes to shoot deer that
are 5 and a half years old or higher so he
wanted to “Let him grow”.
The following season in 2012, Jeremiah
was in stand running camera for his
brother when The Big Eight showed up.
Knowing Jeremiah’s history with this
buck, his brother asked “Should I take
him?” Jeremiah’s response was “Are you
nuts? You can take him if you want him.”
The buck was at 18 yards, he drew his
bow, and shot right over his back. I can
only imagine his disappointment when he
missed this 180” giant.
For the next few weeks, the
buck went nocturnal and the
only glimpses were on trail cam.
They did then have a few close
encounters with this buck. In one
encounter, Jeremiah’s brother had
him at 10 yards, but something
fell out of his pocket spooking
the buck. None of these close
encounters resulted in a shot,
so the buck was re-named Nine
Lives.
