Statistics of a TomTom survey undertaken in 2011
in our neighbouring Johannesburg, are worrying.
It was found that 78% of 3,8 million drivers are
stuck in severe traffic jams daily. About 342 000
(10%) are forced to cancel meetings and more
than 40% of employees are 15-30 minutes late for
work. Congestion adds about 60% to travel time,
and in addition, more than 435 000 children are
stranded each day owing to traffic jams which result
in guardians arriving late. We can be assured that
Pretoria is not really better off.
