WHICH ARE THE FOODS THAT ARE HIGHEST IN CARBOHYDRATES? For a fail-safe general guideline, just remember this: Foods that have the highest carbohydrate content are higher in sugars and starches. This includes anything which has been made with flour from any type of grain, foods that have sugar added to them and foods that are either starchy vegetables or derived from starchy vegetables such as potatoes and corn. The next set, regardless of what you think they are made from, are most processed foods. These have much higher carbohydrate levels than you may have been told. That’s because manufacturers like to make as much profit as they can from producing this type of food, and will often bulk them out with low-cost high carbohydrate based ingredients or worse. One prime example is, say, sausages. These are often bulked out with breads and have sugar and other flavour enhancers added to make them edible. Do make sure you read the packets before you buy them.
