And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under
the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard
about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch
his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from
her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and
asked, “Who touched my clothes?”“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet
you can ask, „Who touched me??“But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He
said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”Mark 5:25-34
This is my favorite story in the bible. This one woman taught us much from her one issue. This
unnamed woman pressed on relentlessly. Just imagine a big crowd, like in New York City on
New Year’s Eve, and you are trying to make your way to the front to see Jesus. In Luke 8, it says
the crowd almost crushed him. Would you have done it or could you have done it? I can just picture this desperate woman, down on her knees trying to get to him and yet, she could only touch
his garment. My God!!! It did not matter that she had endured this condition for twelve years—it
made her even more determined. When it was all done Jesus said,? Daughter, your faith has
healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.?
Her faith is what healed her. She had heard about Jesus. She knew in her heart and soul that Jesus would heal her. We are only required to have a little faith the size of a mustard seed. May you
press on and have the faith like the woman that touched the hem of His garment that day.
Father, you are so patient with us. I pray that we would develop pushy, courageous faith within
us today. Father God, please just nudge each of us back in the right direction if we get off the
path in this faith journey that You have us on. Bring us to the place where we will reach out for
Your promises with the same vigor as the sick woman. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
