REFLECTIONS: Is It War, Again?

by Teresita Bacani-Oropilla, MD

There used to be a song we children sang with vigor!โ€œ The winds of March are blowing wild. Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!โ€

This month of March in 2026 unfortunately, the TV echoes the equivalent ofโ€œ The bombs bursting in air!โ€
What happened?! Are we having another war? With whom? By whom? Is it a power grab? By whom? From whom? Is it revenge for previous grievances? Or just another power play?
Is that what we, the modern version of our ancestors, are doing? Have we not learned and practiced more civil ways of sharing power and owning the riches of our earth?
Must we have war again? It seems that humans, endowed with brains and hearts could and ought to finally find ways to be peacefully happy?
Can we? Dr. Bacani-Oropilla is a retired pediatrician and psychiatrist.
Historians we are not, nevertheless at least, we do remember hearing of migrations, settlements, cave paintings and the progress of our ancient ancestors. Yes, they sometimes outdid the weakest of their peers to gain properties, prestige and power over time.
