In Remembrance
Ernest A. Eggers, MD Apr. 12,1939- Dec. 23, 2025
Dr. Ernie Eggers was born Apr. 12,1939 in Anderson, Indiana, and passed away in Louisville at age 86 on Dec. 23, 2025. He was the son of Pastor Ernest and Lydia Eggers, grew up in Bremen, Indiana, and attended the University of Akron. Ernie graduated from the University of Louisville School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency in 1969, after which he joined the U. S. Navy where he honed his reconstructive skills caring for injured soldiers and their families.
Ever the forward thinker, Ernie trained in Great Britain with Sir John Charnley, the pioneer of total hip arthroplasty. One of the first surgeons to bring total joint arthroplasty to the U. S., we heard stories of Ernie importing his own bone cement for hip replacements in Kentucky from Canada, as it was not yet widely available here.
included a surgery center, physical therapy clinic, DME dispensary and on-site MRI services.
A testimony of Ernie’ s indomitable spirit and physical fortitude is the fact that he survived more than one episode of cardiac dysrhythmia and arrest, one episode of which included a fall from the spin bike upon which he was exercising at the time. Dr. Eggers eventually succumbed to this disabling heart disease, surrounded by those whom he loved.
Ernie was most proud of his family for whom he has left a wonderful legacy. He will be missed by his colleagues and the countless patients whose lives he improved.
