Louisville Medicine Volume 73, Issue 1 | Page 9

Dr. Tom Higgins, MD, MSPH, MBA is a 2006 graduate of the University of Louisville School of Medicine and the School of Public Health and Information Sciences. His industry is exemplified by obtaining the dual degree in a four-year period, demonstrating that Dr. Higgins is willing to work and is not afraid of a challenge. Dr. Higgins demonstrated an early passion for otolaryngology-head and neck surgery where he excelled in his residency at East Carolina and fellowship in rhinology and skull base surgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Center. He returned to Louisville to join Kentuckiana ENT and is a Clinical Professor at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He is an active mentor to medical students and otolaryngology-HNS residents regarding research in the specialty, clinical opportunities and health care advocacy. He has a longstanding passion for health care policy, with a commitment to health care access for our community, equitable reimbursement for physicians and sound, evidenced-based health policy that focuses on outcomes and improvement. Dr. Higgins is a deep thinker. He is a calm and thoughtful leader, who bases his decisions on evidence, but also considers the deep narratives of our patients and physician community. We are indeed fortunate to have Dr. Higgins as a physician leader in our community and we look forward to his leadership in the role of President of the Greater Louisville Medical Society.
