Introducing

DR. THOMAS HIGGINS

Dr. Thomas“ Tommy” Higgins is an excellent physician and surgeon, a good friend, a family man and someone who gives back to society. Our families are friends, so I know his wife and sons well, and our wives have been friends longer than us. There’ s nothing more important to him than his family. He’ s also a great friend. From St. Patrick’ s Day on“ Higgins Hill” to Oktoberfest, Monday Night Football to a guys’ trip to Vegas, he knows how to have fun and seize the day in his time away from the office.
His work ethic is unbelievable! After college, medical school and two rounds of residency in otolaryngology and rhinology, which took him from Louisville to Eastern Virginia to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, he still wasn’ t done learning. He’ s earned not one, but two master’ s degrees in Public Health and Business Administration. The second one he earned at night after a long day of practicing medicine and spending time with the family... I don’ t know when he sleeps! His academic pursuits led to my awarding him an honorary D. O. A., or“ Doctor of Over Achievement” degree.
In short, it does not surprise me at all that Tommy... Dr. Higgins... was elected President of the Greater Louisville Medical Society. His tireless service to the medical profession and to his fellow human beings is what makes him the perfect person for this job. And I’ m sure his advocacy in Frankfort will leave Kentucky’ s medical profession more effective with far-reaching impact.

I first met Tom when we were wide-eyed college freshmen with big dreams of becoming physicians. Even then, it was clear Tom was a driven, compassionate person. Over the years he has demonstrated clinical excellence, humility and a deep commitment to serving both his patients and his colleagues. Tom is the kind of physician and leader any community would be happy to have. And I am lucky enough to be his friend.
