Brews of All

Lucrative: that’ s what we might call the coffee market. There’ s a lot of local interest in coffee, with new“ Scooters” and“ 7Brews” popping up all over. It’ s especially nice to see local places taking their own twist on coffee.

Just off E. Oak Street near Ellison, you’ ve probably passed by this coffee shop and not even realized it. The front of the building is a hair salon, the back a coffee shop and the upstairs a yoga studio. It’ s very subtle, and if you aren’ t looking for it you will miss it. The owner of this building previously lived in Germany. She missed the backyards and community spaces. As a result, she opened this space. You enter from the alley next to the hair salon and it opens onto a beautiful green space. This is the backyard view that makes Hinterhof Rosterei Kaffee the place you want to be. Inside you are welcomed into the cozy space with a menu. The drink menu has a specialty area that changes out with the season. The coffee is brewed in small batches by the owner. I’ ve found this space lovely for morning meetings. It is serene and peaceful, even if you can’ t sit outside on that particular day. The seasonal menu right now includes a cereal milk latte, white chocolate pistachio iced latte and a mustachio Miel. You cannot go wrong. So, check out the serene nature of Hinterhof and enjoy a lovely latte.
If you are feeling more classic when it comes to Louisville coffee, head to Safai. It has two locations: one is on Bardstown Road near Murray, and another is located in the Logan Street Market. Mike Safai is the owner and founder of both. He wanted to have a space for small businesses and entrepreneurs to thrive in Louisville. That’ s what Logan Street Market has become. The constant in Logan Street Market is the
Safai coffee shop. It is right at the entrance of the market. It has all the favorites, along with seasonal finds. To tell you how popular this place is, there’ s usually a line( which is a great sign that you found a good spot). My favorite drinks to get here vary depending on the mood / day. The black magic is a solid choice.
One of my favorite things to do in the summer is to walk across the Big Four Bridge. You’ ll find in Jeffersonville, Indiana that there are a lot of little hidden gems, including Coffee Crossing( locations throughout Southern Indiana). My favorite location is the one in Jeff. When you walk across the bridge then take a small loop to Spring Street, you’ ll come across Coffee Crossing in the first floor of an apartment complex( this is just off 10th Street). Coffee Crossing has a wonderful space, and it is open, airy and just pleasant to be in. There’ s not a lot of loud music so if you want to read, study, hang out with a friend it is a perfect spot. It’ s a day and night space, because you can get coffee, tea, beer or cocktails. My favorite thing to get here is an Italian cream soda. They make it fresh and it’ s just perfect to walk around, then walk back to Kentucky with your drink. Feel free to check out any of the locations throughout Southern Indiana and tell me what you find as your favorite drink.
Finally, I’ d like to highlight Mochi Wren Boba and Bakery( formerly Milo’ s Boba and Tea). Located in the heart of New Albany at 154 E Main Street, Mochi Wren has opened up during the last few years. They recently underwent a name change after originally naming Milo’ s after their son. Are you wondering what exactly is Boba? Boba is a drink that’ s very popular in Taiwan and other parts of Asia. Boba can consist of tapioca beads or different jelly beads that are added to tea. I know a
