IN REMEMBRANCE : David McNeely , MD 04 / 16 / 1939-06 / 02 / 2024
Louisville recently lost an eminent psychiatrist with the passing of Dr . James David McNeely on June 2 , 2024 . David was a true renaissance man with wide ranging skills and interests including spirituality , philosophy , music , art and the outdoors . He served in numerous leadership positions at the Norton Psychiatric Clinic , Our Lady of Peace , Central State Hospital and Louisville Psychiatric Associates , a practice which he founded . He was an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Louisville School of Medicine as well as a Visiting Professor at the Southern Baptist Seminary , where he lectured on the psychology of religion . He also taught brass instruments at Louisville schools , playing the euphonium ( as well as the piano and Native American flute ). His artistic interests included drawing and painting .

David was a native of Cincinnati and a graduate of Wake Forest University . He obtained his medical degree at the University of Louisville , class of 1965 . David served his psychiatric residency at the University of Michigan before returning to Louisville to practice general adult and adolescent psychiatry . He is survived by his wife , the former Wanda Jo Tackett , daughter Sara and grandchildren . He was sadly predeceased by another daughter , Amy . He will be remembered as an outstanding physician and humanitarian .
