IN REMEMBRANCE: Dr. Leigh Turner Price 09 / 12 / 1963- 10 / 10 / 2024
Dr. Leigh Price passed peacefully at home on Oct. 10, 2024, surrounded by the twang of her beloved bluegrass music and the comfort of her loving family. This followed a courageous, 15-month battle with glioblastoma.
Leigh Turner Price was probably most known as Doctor, but her life was full of many other roles – daughter, sister, Christian, friend, wife, Mom and
Nana.
Leigh was born in Roanoke, Virginia on Sept. 12, 1963, and moved to Louisville in 1970. She graduated from the last class of Thomas Jefferson High School in 1981. She became a Hilltopper attending Western Kentucky University where she met her husband Dr. Tim Price. In 1985, she returned to Louisville where she and Tim got married and started their medical training. She was a year behind Tim in med school, graduating from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1989. She pursued obstetrics and gynecology, and Tim pursued emergency medicine. She completed her OB-GYN residency at the University of Louisville in 1993.
Leigh’ s greatest accomplishment in life was her family. Her first son was born the year she finished medical school. She continued to expand her family the next few years and had three sons and a daughter. They continued to bless her with five wonderful grandchildren.
In 1993, she joined Women First of Louisville where she practiced obstetrics and gynecology until her medical career came to an abrupt end the summer of 2023 when she was diagnosed with glioblastoma. She touched the lives of thousands of women and families in our community doing what she called“ the greatest job I could imagine.”
Her faith was her foundation. She was a beloved member of Eastland Church of Christ for many, many years. She regularly continued to host a women’ s bible study in her home amid failing health.
Leigh was the“ ROCK” in all of her relationships. She was our levelheaded, common-sense influence that kept us grounded. She always lightened the mood with her special touch of wit and humor.
She loved bluegrass music and traveling to music festivals all over the country. One of her favorite traditions was the Oak Ridge Boys concert at the Kentucky State Fair. Last year was their final 50th straight year at the Kentucky State Fair, and I think Leigh attended at least the last 25 years, even last year. She also loved Disney, her Louisville Cardinals and all things Christmas.
Her happy place was life on the farm. She entertained us with all the stories of drama with the critters, even the miniature cows. Raising chickens was her favorite. For years, she supplied the office with fresh eggs, and she continued to gather eggs until her final days.
There is a huge void in the lives of those of us who loved Leigh Price. She is still dearly missed and will never be forgotten.
