I first met Dr . Purcell when I was a first-year resident . By extraordinary luck , I was able to work with her on a weekly basis . She was a role model for me . Her patients adored her . Her wit and wisdom inspired trust and confidence . All the patients felt like they were talking to a close friend . Dr . P is a lifelong learner and educator . Reading the latest articles and news every morning , she would frequently quiz me when I arrived for clinic . Once , hoping to surprise her , I came armed with a study published that very morning , only to find it already printed and waiting for me when I arrived ! She has been my advocate , mentor and confidant on more occasions than I can possibly list . I know that this is the case for many others as well . I have no doubt that Dr . Purcell will serve us well as the next GLMS President . Michael Bricken , MD
Above all , my mother is a giver . To a fault , she has always chosen to put others first and I believe it is evident in all the lives she has touched , whether through medicine or her daily interactions . While she rarely acknowledges the part she plays in so many lives , I hope she knows how truly loved and appreciated she is from friends and family alike . Colin Purcell
