CALLED TO SERVE ogy , engineering , art and math as the platform for translating curiosity , connectivity , humanity and design thinking into a healthier , more inclusive , creative and workforce-ready region .
As part of this plan , the Kentucky Science Center is launching the transformational interactive exhibit “ Uniquely Human ” ( for which the organization received a generous gift from the GLMS Foundation ). This project reflects and engages our diverse community , encouraging all visitors to ask questions about the connection between body and mind . In addition , the Kentucky Science Center is increasing its reach throughout the state to engage communities that have previously had little to no engagement with the organization . Through the “ Science In Play2Go ” initiative , the Kentucky Science Center is working with libraries and other facilities throughout the state to house temporary , interactive play-based science exhibits . Through play , school groups and young children with their caregivers have the opportunity to “ Do Science ” in their own communities . The Science Center ’ s mobile “ MakerPlace STEAM Carts ” visit elementary schools throughout the city and state , bringing a fun new way to experience science in the school setting . The Kentucky Science Center also hosts multiple events for children , families and adults throughout the year at its flagship facility on West Main Street . Among others , these include the family-friendly “ ThunderBlast ” in April and the themed “ Eat , Drink , Do Science ” evenings which feature hands-on activities , drinks , and light bites for adults only .
These initiatives reinforce my passion for this organization and its future in our community . From engaging young children through adults , the Kentucky Science Center fully embodies its mission to encourage everyone to “ Do Science .” I am excited to be part of the Board during this time of growth at the organization , and I encourage everyone to visit the Kentucky Science Center to see how much fun science can be for all ages .

GLMS Foundation Donates to Kentucky Science Center for “ Uniquely Human ” Exhibit

by MONALISA TAILOR , MD

Speaking of the Kentucky Science Center , your GLMS Foundation just gave a substantial donation to this institution for their creation of the “ Uniquely Human ” exhibit . This exhibit is going to explore mental health , resiliency and how we interpret different experiences . This exhibit is going to get to the root of what makes each of us uniquely human . In addition to Dr . Giavonne Rondo ’ s service on the Kentucky Science Center Board , the Uniquely Human Advisory Committee has been chaired by our very own , Dr . Sarah Moyer , and has included myself and Dr . John Roberts as members of the committee to help identify topics of interest for this exhibit . For me , being a part of this committee was personal .

When I explored the “ Uniquely Human ” exhibit with the Advisory Committee , it reminded me of the trips we took to the Kentucky Science Center when I was in high school , and the smell of Subway sandwiches rekindled those memories . We visited the museum as part of the Science Club , and it fostered a lifelong importance of science for my friends and me . Riding up from Bowling Green , we looked forward to those bus rides , seeing the science museum and coming up with ideas . We went on to explore science in our own ways . One of my best friends is now a PhD in organic chemistry and teaches at a university . I became a physician . The Kentucky Science Center matters for this community and for this Commonwealth . This is something youth in other parts of the state look forward to and can explore . It ’ s their opportunity to learn and grow from this experience .
In the vein of our Pulse of Surgery donation many years ago , we hope that this exhibit continues to inspire our community to identify what makes them uniquely human . May it also inspire the next generation to pursue the lifelong importance of science , psychology and medicine .
