STEERING TOWARDS NEW HORIZONS
One of the areas GLMS was committed to streamlining was our Centralized Application Processing Service ( CAPS ). Traditionally one of GLMS ’ flagship programs , CAPS was struggling to keep up with the substantial flow of applications it saw each day .
After nine months , CAPS has made a nearly complete turnaround into greater efficiency and better customer service . As Jessica Williams , GLMS Director of Member & Client Services , told the GLMS Board of Governors , “ We ’ re making a lot of changes and being much more transparent . We ’ re doing more reporting to the facilities and showing them our numbers even if they ’ ve not been pretty . We ’ re showing our numbers and then showing substantial improvement .”
Since autumn 2015 , the average time needed to complete a credentialing application has been cut by more than half , from 88 days to 37 . Exec . Vice President Bert Guinn said of the changes , “ I ’ m getting glowing reports of satisfaction from hospital officials . Appointing Jessica Williams as director over CAPS is one of the best decisions we could have made .” Likewise , the CAPS staff got reinvigorated and took on the challenge to take their service to the next level .
Credentialing is just one of the many areas GLMS has been determined to make a difference in the day-to-day lives of physicians .
Chief among the concerns of our physicians has been the mental wellbeing of their friends , their peers and themselves . Our president , Dr . Couch , addressed the increasing concern of physician burnout in an August 2015 article in Louisville Medicine , saying “ Achieving a work-life balance is important … Burnout takes a high toll on physicians , leading to broken relationships , substance abuse and suicidal ideation .”
To give physicians a safe , anonymous space to talk about the problems affecting them , GLMS created the Physician Wellness Program . Through this initiative , active members are able to utilize up to four free visits to a counseling service chosen carefully by GLMS . There , our physicians may address normal life difficulties in a confidential and professional environment . The health of our physicians is a primary concern for GLMS , and we ’ re committed to the fight for our members ’ personal well being and professional satisfation .
The evolution of CAPS and the introduction of the Physician Wellness Program have been some of the most visible changes to GLMS , but much has taken place behind the scenes to make GLMS a more responsive and proactive organization for years to come .
