The Big Egg has been around for decades, it has changed ownership several times over these decades. The Big Egg now owned by brothers Jimmy and Ahmad Lababidi have a 24 hour dining on Friday and Saturday, such a convenience. There is off street parking in the back, however beware children may be playing in the parking as it is shared by the tenants of the apartments attached and above the Big Egg and there is a possibility of damage to your car! There is alternate parking directly in front of the restaurant as well as on the side streets. My visit to the Big Egg was on a Saturday afternoon around 4 p.m. The place was empty… literally empty… no one was there. We sat ourselves and a minute later we were greeted by a waitress with menus, a smile, a clean appearance and asked what would we like to drink. The restaurant was clean, the tables, carpeted floor, even the condiments on the tables were clean; however the silverware… not as much. It was a nice cool feel, bug free with over-head music playing that could be considered a little controversial for a restaurant setting.

Now onto the food

The specials were posted in clear view, the menus were clean and detailed every item. My guest had the ‘Perch and Eggs’ special while I tried the ‘Strip Steak and Eggs’ well done both Eggs scrambled with cheese and each meal was served with hash browns and your choice of white/wheat/rye toast. The Perch taste like fish sticks and it was not Perch it was indeed Whiting. On both plates the eggs were scrambled soft with a slice of American cheese laid on top, not even melted or scrambled in the eggs. The tartar sauce taste like mayo with pickles in it. The hash browns were not cooked through only browned on top. The Steak was well done as requested and tender but my wheat toast was gummy. The A-1 steak sauce given was watered down and did not taste like A-1 steak sauce. There were multiple selections of jelly for the toast. The beverages were good and taste like what we ordered, not watered down or too sweet.

The ladies bathroom is one stall, outdated with no seat covers, a slight smell of sewer, an out of order paper towel dispenser and it appears this may be the original bathroom from 1952!

IN MY REVIEW OF THE BIG EGG I RATE THEM 3 THUMBS UP!
