Is Lockerbie Academy bigger than your primary school? Are you worried about getting lost? Don’t be as you will find your way round quicker than you think, we did!
Lockerbie Academy is quite large and has 718 pupils. Lockerbie Academy is a modern school with many new facilities; the music and drama classrooms have a lot of new equipment such as an electric drum kits and guitars and the classrooms have electronic whiteboards.
The Rector, Mr Herbert, said when we interviewed him that he is “delighted” with the new school as in Lockerbie Academy there are a “variety of different pupils with many abilities”. He also mentioned that he is impressed with the layout of the building, however he was disappointed because he never got a say in the design as the balcony in the Art department never sees the sun and it has no other view than the PE block. Also that his office was not where he originally would have chosen it to be, which would have been nearer to the main school office. Despite all of this he thinks that Lockerbie Academy has a great advantage over the other schools in Dumfries and Galloway - when he was visiting Annan Academy he noted that their school grounds had long grass and was not maintained like ours is!
Mr Herbert is a genuine man who is very kind and caring towards pupils at Lockerbie Academy who try their best at school, whereas he is an unpleasant sight when he is angry with an unruly pupil!
