Obstacles and difficulties encountered
Obstacles for the EPG good development have been identified as such:
- Communication and especially a problem with internet communication is not always effective because people who would like to get involved in EPG don’ t always check their email or they can’ t find the information on the internet. Everyone does not attend meetings and it is time consuming for involved people( already taking care of many things) to contact directly each member of EPG. The solution is to take time to talk with people and to put in place the best communication adapted to every person, even if it means multiplying means of communication( it takes time as well).
-Organization, task division and responsibilities: after a few months of practice and 2-3 collective purchase orders, it was always the same persons taking care of the organization tasks. Nonetheless, this EPG is“ self-managed”, meaning that everyone can propose and take responsibilities. Not everybody is comfortable with organization, bookkeeping, producers, transformation, and storage. Therefore, there is a need for training.
-Time and availability: people who want to get involved must make themselves available to take responsibilities and organization in charge.
-Storage: Right now, EPG does not have enough members to sell off everything ordered in bulk. So, they are forced to store it. Not everyone has room to do so. Not everyone has ideas, knowledge, skills, or even equipment to be able to transform it.
