Pumphouse Sat just to the right of the albert dock, Pumphouse and its giant chimney are unmissable by the water’s edge. With the prices of most of the docks’ eateries being what they are, a pub is a pleasant find here. That being said, you’ll struggle to find a place to sit here when dockside festivities are in full swing. Without hopping off the Wirral, it makes a great pub crawl end. Choose a clear late summer’s night and sit out on the benches overlooking the Mersey with a cold cider and you’ll appreciate just how beautiful Liverpool and the Albert Dock truly are. Peter Kavanagh’s If the thought the collection of dominoes boxes and coupons from fresher’s week in your bedroom was impressive, then the eclectic collection at this next pub will leave you in wonderment. The diamond in the roughs of Toxteth is the fantastical Peter Kavanagh’s, where the walls sing with all kinds of fabulous artefacts. Like a mini museum, it has several snug rooms full of memorabilia to discover. This Georgian quarter character is a bit off the beaten track from the city centre but you haven’t ticked the box of quirky places to drink until you’ve tried it. The Vines The glassy, brassy and ornate Vines pub with its sticky-out clock and tower have played host to many an ordinary meeting so little more needs be said about its worthiness in any pub crawl itinerary. On the inside, it feels a little more old fashioned and in the heart of the city than some other pubs on this list – where your scousers like to flock. It’s in the perimeter of flocked-to Irish pubs close to central station, making it very easy to literally crawl from place to place. Ma Boyle’s Alehouse and Eatery Another ‘Ma’ of Liverpool, this time heading on down towards the docks, just outside of Our Lady and St Nicholas Church. Famed for its 50 speciality rums served in its own basement bar and cabaret bar, Ma Boyle’s sits on a side of town poorly explored by students and it makes a great start point to some dockside or business district exploration. When evenings of pint pulling are done here, morning brings a breakfast menu that is rumoured to be a delight. Victoria Simpson, 3rd year medical student
