MP wears it pink in Parliament for families effected by breast cancer

Bolton West and Atherton MP Chris Green has shown support for women affected by breast cancer by dressing up in pink and encouraging their constituents to take part in the UK ' s biggest , brightest and pinkest fundraiser , wear it pink , on Friday 21 October . Wear it Pink is back for its 15th year , calling on supporters across the country to add a flash of pink to their wardrobe for the day and raise money for Breast Cancer Now ' s life-saving breast cancer research . Chris Green joined fellow parliamentarians in wearing it Pink in Westminster to encourage people across the UK to get involved and help Breast Cancer Now towards their ambition that , by 2050 , everyone that develops the disease will live . Wear it Pink raises close to £ 2 million each year for world-class research into breast cancer , and this year it ' s going to be pinker and more fun than ever before . Anyone can take part , whether at work , at home or at school . All you have to do is wear something pink and donate what you can . The MP also continues to demonstrate support for women and men living with breast cancer by being one of 211 Breast Cancer Ambassadors across the country , urging fellow politicians and constituents that immediate action must be taken to stop the disease taking lives . Chris said , “ 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK , and sadly around 11,500 women and 80 men will lose their lives to the disease . Together , we must put a stop to this . Through cutting-edge research , Breast Cancer Now are tackling the disease from all angles to ensure that , by 2050 , everyone that develops the disease will live . But we all need to join forces and act now , and in wear it pink there is a fun and simple way for everyone to get involved . As a Breast Cancer Ambassador I am particularly passionate about standing up for the women and families affected by the disease in Bolton West and Atherton and I am very proud to take part in Wear it Pink . I hope everyone in the local community will join me by Wearing it Pink on Friday 21 October .”

Mark hits the slopes with Team GB

Albany Academy , Year 7 student Mark Dodgson , is a team GB star in the making . Mark however does not take part in the summer version of the Olympics but is a star of the slopes and he has ambitions of representing his country at the Winter Olympics . The talented Bordercross star has just been selected for Team GB in the under 12 age group . Training once a week at Chill Factor ( e ) in Manchester alongside team GB star Danny Chambers and coach Si Hunter Nicholson , who are helping Mark to hone the skills he has been developing for the past 4 years . Mark started skiing from a young age but a chance encounter on holiday four years ago ended with Mark being signposted towards Bordercross . Boardercross is a snowboard competition in which four to six snowboarders race down a course which are quite narrow and include cambered turns , various types of jumps , berms , rollers , drops , steep and flat sections designed to challenge the riders ' ability to stay in control while maintaining maximum speed . Competition format is typically a time trial followed by a knock-out tournament . The sport , like many winter sports is a high risk event and requires the athletes to be able to maintain their balance at great speeds . Mark spoke of his honour at being chosen to represent team GB , saying , “ I am delighted to have been selected and I hope one day to go to the Winter Olympics . If I can win a medal that would be great but my aim is to try to reach a competition and then see how I can perform .” Mark also spoke highly of his coach Danny Chambers saying it is great to work with one of his heroes . Mark ' s father , Christopher Dodgson , said of his sons ' achievements , “ Since Mark saw the winter Olympics in Sochi 2014 , he has wanted to represent his country in Boardercross . He has shown dedication to the sport over the past 18 months ; this was reflected when he was spotted on the Zoe Gillings I . D camp and
was accepted onto the Home Nations Squad . We are proud of his progress to date , and look forward to seeing what he can achieve in the future .” Head of Year 7 at Albany Academy , Shelley Birchall , said , “ It ' s very exciting to think that a current Year 7 here at Albany could be representing Great
Britain in future Olympic games .” To find out more about the Boardercross please visit www . cross-snowsports . org www . snowboard-coach . com

It ' s a great opportunity for friends , co-workers and families across the UK to have some fun , wear something pink and show their support for those affected by breast cancer . Far too many women are still losing their lives to this dreadful disease . On Friday 21st October , every cake baked , every feather boa or pink tie worn and every laugh shared will help us create a future where no one dies from breast cancer . We will all be standing together , with colleagues and friends , to stop breast cancer taking the lives of the people we love – and we very much hope you ' ll join us .” For more information or to register , visit www . wearitpink . org .

Neighbourhood plan

Horwich Town Council is considering supporting the creation of a Neighbourhood Plan . Neighbourhood Plans are statuary documents which could give Horwich residents the chance to contribute to the rules under which local planning decisions are taken although these would have to take account of National , Regional and Borough requirements . The council is interested in hearing from people within the Town or those who have business interest locally who may be able to join a voluntary committee and give some of their free time over a fairly long period to contribute to the development of a plan . It is both the council ' s wish and a requirement of the Localism Act that we seek people from a wide cross section of the community as possible . In order to contribute committee members should have a good knowledge of the local area and be prepared to investigate both local requirements and planning regulations . It is likely that the ideal candidates would be used to manage projects and may also have experience in dealing with local government . People with experience in Health , Sport , Local Business , Professional and Community affairs would also be welcomed . Whilst the council can offer very limited help and support it is expected that the committee would work largely independently of the Council . Horwich Town Council has delegated Councillors S Rock , J Bullock and M Brady to seek possible committee members and it is their intention to hold an informal meeting of people who may wish to get involved so that they can give more details of what is required . If you would like to know more or perhaps attend a meeting please contact them via email horwichneighbourhoodplan @ gmail . com
