A Green Future
Protecting the Gran Chaco Forest is important not only for its unique biodiversity but also for its capacity to mitigate climate change . Forests play a critical role in storing and removing carbon from the atmosphere , and deforestation can release significant amounts of greenhouse gases into the air .
We believe the best way to protect a forest is to make it productive . By sourcing and selling Guaiacwood essential oil , dōTERRA is helping to make Paraguay ’ s El Chaco Forest profitable , protecting the trees from being cut down to make space for other money-generating activities .
Students of El Cerrito agricultural school learning trade skills dōTERRA , alongside our sourcing partner , are committed to be part of this effort to protect the Gran Chaco forests and promote sustainability , and we hope to inspire others to do the same . Together , we can make a difference in preserving and regenerating our planet ’ s forests for generations to come .
Eight hours away by car , in the community where the Guaiacwood distillation facility stands , nonprofit organisation Fundacion Paraguaya has established the El Cerrito agricultural school . The vocational boarding school provides field experience in agriculture , trade skills and hospitality for youth from vulnerable communities . El Cerrito has an organic garden , which feeds all the onsite students , faculty and farmhands , while also generating supplemental income for the school and stimulating the local economy as students sell excess produce . Both our sourcing partner and the dōTERRA Healing Hands Foundation™ have committed to financially support this school to help promote self-reliance in the area .
