MJLD MJLD PANEL SESSION AND NETWORKING EVENT On 23 October 2013, five of our committee members attended the BPP Liverpool to take part in the “MJLD panel session and networking event” with both GDL and LPC students who are currently studying at the BPP. Amy Armstrong, Education Representative, Charlie Mahoney, MJLD Chair, May Lee, Publicity Representative, Rebecca Zaidi, MJLD Treasurer and Benjamin Fraser, National Representative presented to the students, giving an overview of the MJLD and their individual roles on the committee. They highlighted the benefits of membership, the services we provide to students and young lawyers, such as work experience schemes and networking events and explained how students can get involved. The committee members also gave an overview of their current job roles, describing their backgrounds and individual journeys from university to how they got where they are today. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session. The Students were very engaging and our committee members gladly answered the sensible questions put to them. Our committee members were able to expand on the types of networking events the MJLD organise and provide an insight in to working within the legal profession and applying for training contracts, including the best way to sell yourself in an application form. One student asked, “What is the best piece of advice you received whilst you were trying to secure a training contract?” This really got our members thinking and the students found the honest answers regarding the reality of what students should to do in order to obtain a training contract extremely helpful. Afterwards, our committee members had an opportunity to chat to the students one on one at an informal networking session. The students showed a refreshing interest in hearing about our members’ experiences and were extremely keen to become involved in all the MJLD has to offer. This was an enjoyable event for all and we look forward to seeing the BPP students at future MJLD events. Amy Armstrong Hill Dickinson LLP who were all part of the winning team. A massive thank you to everyone that helped organise what was a very successful event. The MJLD managed to raise a further £148 for their chosen charity - CHICS (Children's Cancer Support Group) so thank you to all those that attended. The MJLD's Christmas Event is due to be held at City Wine Bar on 5 December 2013 and there will be a number of events to look out for in the new year. Benjamin Fraser DLA Piper UK LLP Merseyside Christian Lawyers Extend a warm invitation to all, to join us for our informal meetings at the Law Society, Cotton Exchange between 1 & 2pm on: MJLD Annual Pub Quiz @ Merchants (14 November 2013) After a number of surprise teams turned up, the MJLD had to take over the whole bar before the MJLD's annual pub quiz could begin. Not even a dodgy microphone could dampen the spirits of the eager teams who wanted nothing more than the victory champagne and chocolates! Following a very close contest, some questionable scoring and the incorrect winners being announced; it was 'The Mongrels' that eventually came out victorious. Congratulations to Thomas Young (Sefton MBC), Nick Hemus (Sefton MBC), Philip Nam (Byrne & Co Solicitors), Hayley Carrigan (MSB Solicitors), Emma Beckett (Berkson Globe) and members of the HAYS recruitment team 22 Liverpool Law Thursday, 19th December 2013 Thursday, 16th January 2014 Wednesday, 19th February 2014 Wednesday, 12th March 2014 Thursday, 3rd April 2014 Wednesday, 14th May 2014 Wednesday, 18th June 2014 Thursday, 10th July 2014 Wednesday, 13th August 2014 Wednesday, 10th September 2014 Thursday, 23rd October 2014 Thursday, 6th November 2014 Wednesday, 17th December 2014 We welcome everyone to our vibrant group where we enjoy sharing and exchanging our views about faith and the law.
