NECESSITY First food then shelter you ask for more there’s always another need of yours But eventually, there will be nothing For me to give you eternity Be warned, I know all You tremble when I fall I am your greatest enemy And still I am your greatest fiend For I am necessity -NICHOLAS SKELLEY -8TH “If you really needed as much as we say we do, we would be one of the weakest species on Earth. We would be incredibly independent and reliant on three basic things: food, water, and shelter; but we can also be ridiculously reliant upon others and pretend to need so much more than we do. As explained in the poem, we have progressed from definite basic needs to exorbitant wants the we ‘need.’ If we have something to eat, water, and something over our heads, we can survive and prosper, but our description of need has been blown far out of proportion.” -NICHOLAS SKELLEY - 8TH
