YOUR LIBRARY

Continued...

Speaking of checking the website for programs, a lot of libraries have writing groups or events. Some libraries in my hometown have poetry readings, others have writing workshops or educational programs with local authors or university professors on hand to offer advice or critiques. How much does this cost? Library programs are usually free, but you may have to register in advance to allow the presenter an idea of how many participants to expect. Once you attend a program, you could even offer to help organize or assist, letting the presenter know that you are an author with particular interests and knowledge you’d like to share with everyone. You can be sure there are others there who would love to learn about whatever you are most comfortable or seasoned doing, whether it is plotting, time management, editing, cover creation, or any of the myriad pieces of the puzzle that needs complete before a book is ready to go out into the world.
